ACCOMACK COUNTY--A man who allegedly stabbed two firefighters who were trying to help him is a Va. Beach police officer, according to Va. State Police.

Authorities say Bradley Colas crashed into a tree after his car ran off  Lankford Highway in Accomack County around 6:42 a.m. Sunday.

Rescue and Fire crews arrived and were helping Colas with his injuries.  Investigators say that's when Colas got irritated and stabbed two firefighters.

The firefighters fought back, hitting Colas in the head.  Colas then reportedly pulled out a gun and opened fire.  He started running away, but state troopers caught him before he got too far.

Colas remained in the hospital Monday, where he was under medical observation.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with Va. State Police said Monday that warrants have been secured for two counts of malicious wounding of an emergency medical care provider.

The firefighters' injuries are non-life threatening.  They were treated and released from the hospital.
